Mr. Barnes
After substitute teaching at Community Roots Academy for two years Mr. Barnes is excited to join the team full-time as a Middle School math teacher. “While my passion in school was to study literature, I’m also very dedicated to the idea that Mathematics can reach an even greater number of students, and combining elements of both disciplines can be so very beneficial to creating thoughtful, innovative and well-rounded students.” Mr. Barnes received his bachelor’s degree, English Literature with a minor in Spanish, from UCLA and entered the workforce in the world of finance. Here he found his love of teaching and team-building through overseeing training, management and HR working for a company he helped grow from the beginning until its sale fifteen years later.
Mr. Barnes and his husband took time off to build their family, and then he returned to school, USC this time, to earn his M.A.Teaching and credential in both ELA and mathematics. He now is overjoyed to find himself teaching at Community Roots Academy where both his daughter and son are also students. When Mr. Barnes is not in the classroom, he enjoys seeking adventures with his family exploring the planet from sunny beaches to ski mountains, from deserts to desserts. He also enjoys hiking, yoga, snowboarding and skiing with his family.
